Port Aransas Pulse (“Pulse,” “we,” “us”) is a hyper-local news site for Port Aransas, Texas. We keep what we collect to a minimum and we never sell your personal information. This page explains what we collect, why, and what choices you have.

1. Information we collect

  • Newsletter signups. When you subscribe we store the email address you provide and the source of the signup (footer, popup, etc.) so we can send you the newsletter and understand which calls-to-action work.
  • Tips, stories, events, and corrections. When you use our submission forms we store the name, email, message, and any optional photo URL you provide so we can review and follow up.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps short-term access logs (IP address, user-agent, timestamp, requested URL) for security and abuse prevention. We do not use these logs to build advertising profiles.
  • Local browser storage. We use first-party localStorage for small functional flags — theme preference, dismissed newsletter popups, and similar UI state. We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. See our Cookie Policy for details.

2. How we use information

  • To send the newsletter you asked for and operate the site.
  • To review and publish submitted tips, stories, and events.
  • To diagnose errors, prevent abuse, and improve content.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

3. Service providers we rely on

  • Hosting & database — our hosting provider stores the site, our database, and short-term server logs.
  • Search engines — we submit URLs of newly published pages to public IndexNow endpoints (Microsoft Bing, Yandex) so new stories appear in search quickly. We submit URLs only, not personal data.
  • Public data sources — tide, weather, and surf data shown on the Fishing page are sourced from public agencies (e.g. NOAA, TPWD) and do not involve sharing visitor data.

4. Your choices and rights

  • Unsubscribe. Email privacy@portaransaspulse.com with the subject line “Unsubscribe” and we will remove your email from the newsletter list.
  • Access, correction, deletion. Email privacy@portaransaspulse.com to ask us what we have on file, correct it, or delete it. We respond within 30 days.
  • Browser storage. You can clear our local-storage entries anytime from your browser’s site-data settings.
  • No cross-site tracking. Because we do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics, normal browsing does not generate cross-site data to opt out of.

5. US state privacy rights (California, etc.)

If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to request a copy, to correct inaccuracies, and to request deletion. We do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not process sensitive personal information for inferring characteristics. To exercise a right, email privacy@portaransaspulse.com. We will verify the request against the email address on file and respond within 45 days.

6. EEA, UK, and other international visitors

Port Aransas Pulse is a US-based publication intended primarily for residents and visitors of Port Aransas, Texas. We do not target the EEA, UK, or other regions outside the United States. If you choose to visit the site or subscribe from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, the lawful basis for processing newsletter signups and submissions is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)); you may withdraw consent at any time by emailing privacy@portaransaspulse.com.

7. Data retention

We keep newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe. Submission records are kept while the content is under review and after publication for editorial reference. Server logs are typically rotated within 30 days.

8. Children

The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us at privacy@portaransaspulse.com and we will delete it.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including HTTPS for all traffic. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the newsletter and on this page. The “Effective” date at the top reflects the latest revision.
